North China's resource-rich Shanxi province has successfully established its 1,000 kV ultra-high voltage (UHV) power grid, while disconnecting the 500 kV grid ring on May 1, according to the provincial government.
This milestone was marked by the transition of the 500 kV Miaobao Second Line from operation to hot standby status at 1:26 am (GMT+8) on May 1.
The transformation project involved significant infrastructure enhancements. This included expanding the main transformers of the 1000 kV Beiyue and Hongshan substations and their integration with the 500 kV Shanxi main grid. It also included the disconnection of the 500 kV eastward transmission channel and the "point-to-grid" transformation of various transformers across the province.
Upon completion, the project is expected to play a crucial role in alleviating power shortages in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, enhancing the overall power transmission capacity of the Shanxi power grid, and driving sustained economic development in the province.
The disconnection operation was managed by State Grid Shanxi Ultra High Voltage Substation Company.
